LINZ
INTERLUDE

by Joe Buchanan

Published by Bookwarren Publishing Services. Can be purchased on http://www.Amazon.com

A wild ride for a generation geared to keep a 20th Century rendezvous with destiny, changing a nation's face and the lives, loves and journeys of most Americans.
A pause in the trip occurs for one young soldier at Linz, Hitler's handsome hometown in whose shadow lurks a ghastly concentration camp.
While billeted there with Patton's combat infantrymen his mind drifts back over circumstances that brought him there from midtown America, where he played the double dating game and danced to big band music at high school and college proms.
A matter of ethics is solved in Paris' red light district before returning home and entering the work world as a journalist observing a wide swath of personalities, ranging from presidents and generals to stars from the country music, sports and film worlds

The reader is ushered into an exquisitely detailed and atmospheric past, tracing the book’s journey from its salvation back to its creation. Background: Law school prepares students to be lawyers, but once they reach the real world, new attorneys often find they lack needed business knowledge. Not only are they uninformed about the management of their firms, but they are also unprepared to understand the needs of business clients.

The Attorney’s Guide to the Business Mind tackles this issue head on. Author Wes Anson, a Harvard MBA and noted expert on the legal issues of intellectual property and business valuation, shares keen insights in this practical, accessible guide for lawyers. With his unique legal-business perspective, Anson reveals how businesspeople view lawyers, why businesspeople use lawyers, and what lawyers need to know about business and businesspeople. Case studies illustrate how JD’s and MBA’s tackle the same issues in different ways.

Tue. Jan. 27 — (7:30 pm) Warwick’s Bookstore will host author Rick Wartzman, who will discuss and sign Obscene in the Extreme. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call the store at (858) 454-0347.

Background: Few books have caused as big a stir as John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath, when it was published in 1939. It was soon the nation’s number one bestseller, but in Kern County, California – the Joads’ newfound home – the book was burned publicly and banned from library shelves. Obscene in the Extreme tells the remarkable story behind this fit of censorship. When Bill Camp, a giant cotton and potato grower, presided over its burning in downtown Bakersfield, he declared: “We are angry, not because we were attacked but because we were attacked by a book obscene in the extreme sense of the word.” But Gretchen Knief, the Kern County librarian, bravely fought back. “If that book is banned today, what book will be banned tomorrow?”
