SDWI now has their own permanent place at The Ink Spot where they have been meeting for the last year on a semi-permanent basis. Geoff Bouvier will lead the September session of this monthly series that will feature rotating hosts. Geoff Bouvier’s first book, Living Room, was selected by Heather McHugh as the winner of the 2005 APR/Honickman Prize. His writings have appeared in American Poetry Review, Barrow Street, Denver Quarterly, Jubilat, New American Writing, Western Humanities Review, and VOLT.
Geoff will lead the three-session class, Writing, From Start to Finish beginning Tuesday, Oct. 16. *Payment for registration will be accepted at the workshop $10.00/session

Thursday Writers meet Thursdays from 5:10 to 6:00 pm at Lestat's, 3343 Adams Avenue (under the Normal Heights sign) Normal Heights area of San Diego. The fee is $5.00.

It will be a crime if you miss their Mystery Writing Workshop on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at the Joyce Beers Community Center
The speaker set his novel at Ocean Beach pier; next stop: the big screen. Award-winning novelist Don Winslow, who will speak to Sisters in Crime San Diego, set his most recent novel at the Ocean Beach pier, and now the novel is on the way to the big screen.
Actor Robert DeNiro is planning to produce and star in a film based on Winslow’s novel The Winter Of Frankie Machine. The story is about a retired contract killer who begins a new life running a bait shop on the Ocean Beach pier. “The Winter of Frankie Machine” was published in 2006.
Winslow will speak on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. to Sisters in Crime, a co-ed group of mystery readers and writers.
Winslow has been an actor, director, movie theater manager, safari guide and private investigator. Winslow won The Private Eye Writers of America ’s Shamus Award for his novel “California Fire and Life.”
Another novel The Death And Life Of Bobby Z is scheduled to come out as a feature film this year. It stars Paul Walker and Laurence Fishburne. The plot centers around a first-rate loser who dodges prison by making a deal with the DEA that requires him to pose as a legendary surfer-drug dealer, Bobby Z, in a hostage switch with a Mexican drug lord.
Sisters in Crime meets at The Joyce Beers Community Center in the Uptown District Shopping Center in Hillcrest, off of University between 10th and Vermont . The Community Center, Bldg. M, is on the east side between Aladdin and Terra Restaurants.
Guests are welcome and pay $3 at the door.
