QUOTES
OF THE WEEK
Frisbeetarianism
is the belief that when you die, your soul goes up on the roof and gets
stuck.
—
George Carlin
I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to
please everybody.
—
Bill Cosby
Local
award winning author, Olin Thompson, is offering FREE
eBook copies of his fourteen titles of adventure novels.
To download your free copies, just click on the heading. You will need
Adobe Reader to ready them.
The
only catch is that if you enjoyed reading any of them, you will write
a short review. And if you really, really enjoyed them, please donate
a dollar or two (or more) to the San Diego WriteWay.
I
have read some of Olin's books and can't believe they haven't been made
into movies yet. They are real page turners and as good as any on the
best sellers list. — Sam Warren, editor7/1

LAME BRAIN 2008: A Dictionary For The Technically Challenged
by Lynn Manning Ross
It’s rumored three months equals one Web year and that technology reinvents
itself every eighteen months. I certainly buy that because every morning
I awaken to the challenge of relearning what I thought I knew. During
the night, someone rewrote the rules! In an attempt to keep up, I’ll often
ask a technocrat to highlight the latest aspects of a software application
or a new piece of hardware. More times than not, I end up brain dead!
I don’t speak tech and I don’t want to know what this techno-stuff is.
I want to know what it does. Specifically, give me a description in everyday
language so I can understand how it relates to my business model—or life
for that matter. More times than not, technocratic explanations remind
me of how people must have felt when ingenuity moved us from the outhouse
to indoor toilets in the late 1800’s. At one point someone probably asked,
“…and what is this long cord for?” ... Read more! Download this practical,
fun and FREE
PDF reference ebook with over 900 tech terms in everyday
language PLUS email and instant text messaging abbreviations. 3/1
Market your Fiction Book Like Mrs. Field's
Cookies
You can market a poetry, memoir, or novel with short "articles"
when you submit to top article directories and web sites. Like Mrs. Field's
toll-house cookies, you give a taste of your book free to hundreds, even
thousands of people online who want your particular information.
Like an article, set up a dramatic incident from your story. Give it a
new introduction and conclusion. Then, in your signature file or resource
box, "Excerpted from "Title of your Book." Or, feature
your main character or hero in action or conflict. Conflicts include with
others, with self, with nature, with technology or with fate. People love
conflict because it shows action. And it's the action in your stories
that sell them. One client wrote a memoir on growing up during the Great
Depression. She wrote a short article on the New Deal by Roosevelt to
attract people to her book, because history lovers would read it.
Remember the who, what, where, when, why and how of your fiction book.
Create any one of these into a short piece that resembles an article.
Articles spread the word online about your book. Fiction writers can use
the amazing # one way to market online with article marketing. Your readers
surf blogs and sites looking or your creative informaion.
Book Marketing Myth: I don't have
enough time to market
This complaint is common. While authors may
love to write, they don't love to market. They wish that someone else
would do it for them. This not-enough time comment is really an excuse.
Saying you don't have time for this is to say, "I don't want to make
money from my book. Why? Because marketing and promotion are the only
actions that do make authors money.
While important, writing a book isn't enough. It does not sell until it's
published. Publishing doesn't guarantee high sales. In fact publishers
don't market or promote, except for a book tour with an intern of questionable
value. Publishers spend money on famous authors. The advance royalties
must be paid back through book sales, too.
Marketing is an investment rather than an expense. Don't let your unsold
books go to waste. Reach out to learn how to do what it takes, so you
can feel proud of your book because you fulfilled your dream-helping your
readers to a better life.
Have you dreamed about taking
a month or two off to write your novel? Can you envision a omfortable
“AUTHOR’S RETREAT” in San Diego, CA where you are provided 2 meals
a day, nourishing snacks, (whole grains, and organic fruits and
veggies) and fresh linens, with laundry facilities right outside
your door on your own private deck? There’s nothing you need to
do except relax, enjoy the creative process, and write your thoughts.
My husband and I are a nurturing author/publisher team
who enjoy offering our clean, restful home to other writers. Much
less expensive than a hotel, you will have your own tastefully furnished
1 bedroom apartment, (half of our duplex home) with a lovely fenced
yard, where you can enjoy solitude, privacy, and freedom from responsibilities.
We delight in providing for your needs so you can write your book.
Your well-behaved pet is also welcome.
We will pick you up at the airport and see to it that whatever
you require is handled, allowing you to totally focus on accomplishing
your goals.Cost is $4200 a month. Editing, special diets, and other
requests are available for an additional fee.
